Izabela Pluta is an early career artist currently based in Sydney. She was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1979 and migrated to Australia in 1986. Pluta is a Master of Fine Arts (Research) candidate at the College of Fine Art UNSW, and graduated from The University of Newcastle in 2002 with a Bachelor of Fine Art Honours. She work in photomedia and installation, and has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions including at Artspace, Sydney, Esa Jaske Gallery, Sydney, Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery at Inversek, Hobart, Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery, Canberra Contemporary Art Space, Soapbox Gallery, Brisbane, Gallery Wren, Sydney, Queensland Centre for Photography, Brisbane, Westspace, Melbourne, Tin Sheds Gallery, Sydney, Newcastle Region Art Gallery, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, and the Visual Workshop Gallery, Rochester NY, USA.

Izabela works in photomedia and installation and has exhibited widely in Australia. In 2006 she was awarded an Australia Council for the Arts Studio residency in Barcelona. She has undertaken other residencies including at the Red Gate Gallery in Beijing, and International Art Space Kellerberrin, WA. In 2008 Izabela was awarded a Freedman Foundation Traveling Scholarship for Emerging Artists and an Ian Potter Cultural Grant for a studio residency at the Cite des Arts International in Paris. She was just recently a recipient of an Australia Council for the Arts New Work Grant for a project she will undertake in Western Australia in 2009.

Izabela was a co-Director at Rocketart in Newcastle [2003-2005], and currently lectures in Photography at the National Art School, Sydney, The College of Fine Art UNSW, and Sydney College of the Arts.
